The East London club for all kinds of sports cycling

5 Feb - Club Run

What? The first Sunday of the month already?

After the 'interim' club run having to be put 'on-ice' because of poor weather last week, it looks to be a good turnout for the monthly club run for February - if its not too cold !

Route to be confirmed, but it'll be the usual start - 9am at Walthamstow Town Hall. We'll aim to return about 2pm.

Pace will be set according to who turns up, with the option of a longer/faster ride for some, given sufficient numbers and keenness, with a more leisurely pace for most.

Do keep an eye on this website, particularly on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th Feb, in case of bad weather where a cancellation or postponement will be posted. Otherwise, see you there !

Forthcoming Rides !

A new function on this website allows members to see what rides, races and events we're planning to participate in during the coming months. Simply click the 'Join or organise a ride' button to the right.

There you can view events, let us know you're joining in or post a ride you're planning to do. Its an open forum - that means you can post replies or open your own 'thread' for your event.

The whole point is to improve communication, get us all riding together and abolish those lonely solo spins that get so tough when it's winter. So, click away !

Trying out a faster club run...

January will see members of Lea Valley Cycling Club testing the idea of a second club run in a month, at a slightly faster pace than the 'first Sunday' ride.

Inspired by new members and their desire to get out on the bike more, we're testing out a sportier 'interim' club run on 29th January.

For details, click the 'Join or Organise a Ride' forum button to the right.

9am meet, at Walthamstowe Town Hall.

It may be slightly faster than the normal club run, but not that fast - and no-one will get dropped!

We'll see how the first one works out, before deciding whether to continue into February.

See you there !

Prize evening: Help needed !

The Club Presentation Evening

As you will know this is on the 25th of February at the Eastway from 7.30pm.

Instead of having our usual dinner dance we will be holding a presentation evening.

There will be buffet, the presentation of the Club Trophies, a raffle , and a Quiz, as well as lots of time to talk with you fellow members about last year’s triumphs and your plans to surpass your self this year.

It will, I am sure, be a night to remember. Invitations will be with you in the next 2 weeks. Tickets will be £10 an adult and £ 5 for children.

All this will take a bit of organising and some how I have become the person to do this.

Obviously, I can’t do this on my own so I am posting this appeal to club members to help me and the club make this a great evening.

I need, in no particular order:

  • Help to get the Eastway Club room ready and cleaned up afterward – we will have the club room from 6.00 pm and will want to decorate the room.
  • Offers of prizes for the raffle- some of which can be humorous
  • Volunteer to run the raffle
  • Offers to prepare and or serve food for the buffet. I can pay for the cost of ingredients
  • Ideas for the evening
  • Questions for the Quiz
  • Music

There will be a meeting at the Eastway on the 23rd to discuss the presentation evening and plan for the evening.

If you are interested in helping then please come along. If you can’t then email or call me (0208 558 3605) instead.

Thanks, Ed Ward.
